Workshops for Farm/Food Partners: Strengthening Your Small Business Roots

An important part of our new and growing Roots Cultural Food Hub is learning about business practices, and as we learn answers to business questions big and small, we’d like to share this learning process with our farm partners.  Therefore, the Roots Program is pleased to debut a new technical assistance program for our producer friends: “Strengthening Your Small Business Roots: Technical Assistance (TA) Workshop Series.”  What is technical assistance?  The easy answer is “helping someone learn how to do something.”  We’ve been providing – and receiving! – technical assistance from our community for years on many topics: organic gardening, cultural crop production, traditional stories, Pacific languages, cooking techniques, plant-based medicine.

Now we’re happy to expand into some new topics selected to answer some of the pressing questions our produce business partners have shared with us.  By providing technical assistance, we’d like to help our friends manage some of the trickier aspects of bringing good food to our Kalihi food system and beyond.  Each month, we’ll host free workshops and provide resources on a produce business topic, starting with:

  • March - Business Tax Advice
  • April - Business Planning
  • May - Product Labeling

This invitation is open to our Food Hub farm partners at this time.  If you’re interested in becoming a Food Hub partner, please learn more about our Food Hub here.

If you have ideas for topics that you would like us to cover in the future, please let us know.  Contact us here.
